Budapest New Year’s Eve Celebrations 2006

Budapest New Year’s Eve Celebrations 2006 are the culmination of a series of special events marking the passing of the Old Year and welcoming in the New. These perennially popular events will be characterized by three distinct styles of music, and staged in three of the capital’s best known Squares.
The guiding principle of this year’s celebrations is that Budapest is the centre of the world. There will be live link-ups with other world cities, and with the benefit of relays from each of the three Budapest venues, revellers the world over will be able to share in the excitement and entertainment.
Jazz will be the order of the day at Vörösmarty Square on 30th December, with a string of favourite Hungarian acts taking to the stage. On New Year’s Eve itself the emphasis switches to world music. Thus over the two days together there should ample to appeal not only to locals but to the large number of foreign visitors expected to converge on Budapest to celebrate New Year.
The place to be for young people will be Oktogon. On New Year’s Eve it will be transformed into a huge outdoor Top of the Pops, with performances from Hungary’s favourite pop bands and singers, as well as easy listening music. After midnight there will be a super disco with popular live DJs.
There will be live musical entertainment at Nyugati Square as well. On 30th December there will be two rock ’n’ roll concerts – building up the excitement for the big party on New Year’s Eve itself. For that there will be a series of acts in concert, followed after midnight by lively entertainment provided by a band got up specially for the occasion and formed by household names from the world of entertainment.
