Budapest Autumn Festival 2008 »
Budapest Autumn Festival 200810/10/2008. - 19/10/2008.Cultural institutes and venues throughout Budapest The Budapest Autumn Festival, which is to be held for the 17th time this year, has become one of the most prestigious contemporary art festivals in Europe. The festival, which lines up several different genres and art domains, will be held in a number of locations and owing to the Hungarian and international artists and performers offers a unique selection of programs. The festival was established by the Budapest Municipality in 1992 as a successor to the Budapest Arts Weeks with a focus on contemporary arts. Its primary objective is to introduce cultural creations of important progressive artists and artistic results from the current times and last decade to the public of Budapest with the involvement of as many art branches as possible. According to its self definition and its objectives its major task is to contribute to the familiarisation and the recognition of new arts in Hungary. The festival reinvents itself every year; in 2008 some rare performances will cross the established boundaries between genres. This year’s program was born in the spirit of interactivity, improvisation, playfulness and peeping: several shows will involve members of the audience to make them part of a special performance formed together. The “Plaza theatre” called PLACCC 2008 – Art on location is just one of the delicacies; another interesting performance is the cycling, which combines the active experience of cycling and the discovery of city sightseeing with state-of-the art technology and video films. Instead of the traditional theatre an alternative Polish group will try to teach flying, while dozens of people carrying suitcases will march through the busiest traffic junctions of Budapest. Visitors can enjoy the one-man, wheelchair performance of Iñaki Mata, a prison monologue or a minimalist theatre show. Further information: info@fesztivalvaros.hu |
