11 August 1686, Sunday - Petrus

Even Sunday which should be dedicated to God entirely did not go by without preparations.

In the circles of high command they say the goal of our troops is to occupy the István Tower. I heard that the northern side led by Duke Charles is also preparing for a new charge.

Our people are preparing the three mines, there must not be any problems with their functioning. We can see that the hustle-bustle is great, the soldiers are preparing their weapons. The men of the rank and file were assigned to the trench to prepare for the next charge. We did not dig that trench in vain, we made them suitable for our troops to safely approach the walls of the fortress. This also brings us closer to our ultimate goal: removing the half-moon flag from the wall of Buda.

We continued to fight smaller battles with the Turkish arriving from the road leading to Fehérvár without any losses worth mentioning. We have learnt that one of the attacks was not in vain, the booty of our warriors included letters addressed to Pasha Abdurrahman. In these letters Szulejman is encouraging the defenders not to give up. From his words we have learnt that the relief troop consists of 60 thousand Turkish and Tartar soldiers. It turned out they want to attack the besiegers, weakening our strength, relieving the defenders of their burden. Ik also so in the big commotion that the magnificent clothing of a Turkish of high position who was killed by the hussars of Adam Batthyany were being taken to the Bavarian Elector.

We also got reinforcements: David Petneházy, István Koháry and Gábor Ballasa who had been riding around at Hatvan, Szolnok and Eger now marched into our camp with 3000 men

They are all famous, experienced warriors.
